Information Regarding VoiceStream’s Proposal for the
Installation of
Telecommunication Antennas at the Little Neck Swim & Racquet Club
VoiceStream Wireless is in the process of establishing a
new telecommunication system for the Hampton Roads area. The services
provided by VoiceStream mirror services offered by existing wireless
providers, with some distinct customer enhancements. In an effort to
establish coverage for the Little Neck community, VoiceStream is exploring
the possibility of leasing a site with the Little Neck Swim & Racquet Club
(LNSRC), located at 864 Little Neck Road.
VoiceStream understands that you may have recently received information
concerning the proposal for the installation of telecommunication antennas
at LNSRC. In order for you to have full and accurate information,
VoiceStream has prepared this information fact sheet for your review.
• The current concept being discussed with LNSRC is to replace three
existing light poles with up to three 115’ slim-line stealth light poles.
All antennas and coaxial cables will be located inside the pole and will
not be visible. The diameter of the poles will be approximately 24 to 30
inches.
• The current proposal will accommodate up to 6 wireless providers
desiring to serve the Little Neck Community.
• The replacement light poles will support a new tennis court lighting
system that is being developed by a lighting consultant. This
state-of-the-art system will improve the lighting of the tennis courts
while reducing the spillover illumination to the surrounding neighbors.
• Ground equipment will be located within facilities that will be designed
by the LNSRC’s architect to blend in with LNSRC’s redevelopment plans.
• The ground equipment facilities will be air-conditioned. Any noise
emitted by the AC systems will be minimal and comparable to residential AC
units already in use at LNSRC.
• The existing trees and vegetation provide a natural buffer. However, if
desired by the community, VoiceStream will enhance this natural buffer
with additional landscaping.
• The energy emitted by the proposed antennas will be well below the
limits set forth by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for safe
installations and well below emissions from standard household items such
as personal computers, microwave ovens and fluorescent lights.
• LNSRC membership has not voted on this proposal. If passed, all rent
generated by the carrier leases will go directly to the LNSRC.
• This proposal will have to be approved by City Council at a public
meeting. If approved, the FAA and the City will not require special
lighting or markings.
VoiceStream is diligently seeking a solution to the wireless coverage
needs of the Little Neck area and welcomes your participation in the
process. It is our hope that by working with you and your neighbors we can
develop the best possible proposal. For additional information, please
